E Jeföhl, dat verbingk – Content with a Sense of Community
With some 60.000 members the 1. FC Köln is one of the largest football clubs in Germany and is known for strong local roots and a participative culture. With its social hub FC-Connect, the club transfers this sense of community into the digital sphere.
The platforms combines official channels of the club, social media profiles of players, news from the media with voices of fans from blogs and boards. In total it integrates more than 90 channels with several thousand articles per week, which can be individually configured by each user. While still in beta, FC-Connect has already received much accolade, such as "Innovation of the Year" at the German Price for Online Communication.
What makes FC-Connect special is, that it is a community project in itself. The platform has been developed by the club together with the Community Kommission (CoKo), a circle of experts from members and fans of the club. At CS Forum 2014 Tobias Kaufmann, the clubs head of media and communication, shares his insights and learnings from the project and explains how digitalization changed the traditional understanding of communication and marketing at 1. FC Köln.
