Hilary Marsh enjoys big content challenges. She has created editorial practices with numerous content owners, developed governance models, helped organizations decide whether and how to “do” social media well, created orderly content types out of masses of unstructured pages, and empowered a small core content team to educate large groups of contributors.
A content strategists since 1999, Hilary is Chief Strategist (aka president and owner) at Content Company, a Chicago-based consultancy that helps associations, nonprofits, and corporations engage audiences online. Clients include Cal State University, the American Bar Association, HIMSS, CompTIA, and Florida REALTORS®.
Hilary is a frequent speaker at local and national events including the 2014 ASAE Annual Meeting, 2014 Confab for Nonprofits, 2013 Association Forum Annual Meeting, Gilbane Conference, ADMCi interactive courses, content strategy meetups, and World IA Day 2014.
She developed and is teaching content strategy courses for Kent State University’s masters program in user experience design. She is an organizer for the Chicago Content Strategy Meetup and is the owner of the international, 16,000-member Content Strategy group on LinkedIn. She founded and is leading the creation of the Content Strategy Collective international organization.
From 2005 to 2011, she was the managing director of REALTOR.org, the member website of the National Association of Realtors. Before starting Content Company, Hilary created the first intranet for R.R. Donnelley, developed content for a beauty e-commerce startup, and led the content strategy practice at Sapient’s Chicago office. She began her career in publishing and copywriting, working for major consumer magazines and Avon Products.
